Incorporated
in 1997 by Bryan Olmsted, a local building contractor, and the late
Dr. Bruce M. Smith, local dentist and entrepreneur, Southern Missouri
Contractor’s Supply Co., Inc. was founded to supply contractors
in the West Plains area an alternative to traveling to larger cities
to find the specialty products not available locally. With Bryan’s
brother Brad as manager, SMCS opened its doors in February 1998
in a leased building at 913 Porter Wagoner Blvd. in West Plains.
Serving a broad client base of builders, contractors, homeowners
and do-it-yourselfers in south-central Missouri and north-central
Arkansas, the company continued to expand it’s product line
to include doors and windows, cultured stone products and an ever
growing line of specialty tools and equipment.
Expanding on its mission to provide products not otherwise locally
available, and driven by an interest in building and preserving
log homes and buildings, in mid 1998 SMCS was fortunate enough to
land the exclusive distributorship of Sashco Log Home Products for
a five state area including Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi
and Western Tennessee. Through this, the branch division of the
company, Ozark Log Home Supply was developed. Using the Internet,
trade shows and other advertizing media, Ozark Log Home Supply has
grown to be a valuable asset to this growing company. The staff
is extremely knowledgeable in regard to building and maintaining
log structures drawing from years of log home, ownership, construction
experience and factory training. Working with a network of distribution
facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada Ozark Log Home Supply
now stocks a substantial inventory of the best log home building
and maintenance supplies anywhere, assuring that consumers nationwide
may receive timely shipments of log home products no matter where
they live, most orders are shipped same day.
In 1999, Ozark Log Home Supply again decided to expand it’s
offering by adding a log furniture and railing manufacturing division
to it’s list of services. Clients may now select from stock
furniture designs or work with our staff to develop the furnishings
and accents to fit their individual needs. Working with locally
available red cedar and other species an extensive selection of
rustic furnishings featuring hand and water peeled designs as well
as bark on styles of stairs, railings, and furnishings are now offered
through our website and at our retail location. Our staff will be
glad to work with you to outfit your log or rustic home with the
furnishings to fit your lifestyle.
In February of 2001, Bryan and his wife Sherry purchased Dr. Smith’s
interests in the business and continued to expand on Bruce and Bryan’s
shared goal of providing needed goods and services to local consumers.
Only a couple of months after this transition in ownership, we lost
our friend, mentor and co-founder Dr. Bruce Smith who passed away.
As local newspaper editor Frank L. Martin stated in his editorial
following his passing “Bruce Smith rarely looked behind, for
he always looked ahead ” and so, as Bruce would have wanted
us to do, we continue to move forward, “looking over that
next ridge” and to what lies on the other side.
In
May of 2001, feeling the pinch of an expanding inventory and service
offering within a leased building the decision was made to purchase
a new facility located at 1621 Porter Wagoner Blvd. just up the
road from the original location. After extensive renovations the
business was relocated in August of 2001 to it’s present location.
Since the relocation the addition of rental tools and equipment
and an expanded inventory of rustic home decor items have improved
our ability to serve your needs. Keep watching as we continue to
expand our line of log home furnishings and decor items in the months
ahead. As our services and inventory continue to expand we look
forward to serving the needs of our clients for years to come, as
always, we strive to provide the best products and services in an
honest and ethical manner. We are proud to be members of the Greater
West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce and an associate member of
the Southern Missouri Home Builders Association. |
